How to Edit a PSD Flyer Template in Photoshop

A practical workflow for changing text, images, colors, dates and event details in an editable PSD flyer template without rebuilding the design from scratch.

Quick answer

Open the PSD in Adobe Photoshop, inspect the layer groups, edit text layers, replace linked or Smart Object artwork when included, adjust colors, confirm fonts and image quality, then save a working PSD copy before exporting the final JPG, PNG or print file.

If you are choosing a file first, start with the PSD Flyer Templates for Photoshop guide or browse the PSDmarket Shop.

1. Open the PSD and inspect the layers

Open the downloaded PSD in Photoshop and look at the Layers panel before changing anything. Well-organized flyer templates usually separate headings, event details, photos, backgrounds and effects into groups so you can identify what needs to change.

Save a working copy immediately so the original download remains untouched.

2. Replace the event text

Select the relevant text layer and update the event name, date, time, venue, artist names, prices, offers and contact information. Keep the original visual hierarchy in mind: the event title should remain the strongest element, while supporting information should stay easy to scan.

If Photoshop reports a missing font, check the product instructions and any font links supplied with the template. You can install the intended font or substitute a similar licensed typeface.

3. Replace photos and artwork

Many PSD templates use Smart Objects or clearly named image layers. When a Smart Object is included, open it, replace the placeholder artwork, save the Smart Object and return to the main flyer. Photoshop updates the composition automatically.

If the template uses regular image layers instead, replace the image while preserving masks, blending modes and effects whenever possible.

4. Adjust colors without breaking the layout

Use editable shape fills, adjustment layers, layer styles or grouped color elements when they are available. Avoid flattening the file early: keeping the PSD layered makes it much easier to reverse a change or create another version later.

For business work, use brand colors consistently across headlines, accents, buttons and supporting elements.

5. Check size, resolution and print settings

Before export, confirm the document size and resolution required for the final use. Many print-oriented flyer templates use high-resolution artwork such as 300 DPI, while social media exports may need different pixel dimensions or color settings.

Review the individual product page and PSDmarket File Requirements for the exact file information available for a template.

6. Save an editable master and export copies

Keep a layered PSD master for future edits. Export separate JPG or PNG files for digital use, and prepare the appropriate print file when sending artwork to a printer. Keeping the editable master separate prevents accidental loss of layers.

Common PSD editing problems

  • Missing fonts: install the intended font or choose a suitable replacement.
  • Text no longer fits: adjust size, tracking or line breaks without destroying hierarchy.
  • Low-resolution replacement images: use sufficiently large source images to avoid soft output.
  • Smart Object confusion: edit the Smart Object contents rather than painting over the rendered layer.
  • Flattened files: keep a layered master before exporting final copies.
  • License uncertainty: review PSDmarket File Licenses before client or commercial use.
